Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful!

How often do you not say or do something because you’re worried about how it will be perceived? For most of us – myself included – this happens more often than we would like to admit.

We want everyone we interact with to tell us the truth and to be themselves. And most importantly, we want to have the confidence to say, do and be who we really are … without worrying so much about how we appear to others … and what they might think or say about us.

Sadly, however, even though we may say we want to live in a way that is true to our beliefs, desires and sense of reality, most of us don’t. It’s not that easy. We’ve been taught that it’s more important to be liked and to fit in than it is to be who we truly are. In addition, many of us assume that who we are is not good enough.

We all wear so many masks. We wear them to fit a role: a good friend, a good worker,or whatever role. We wear them to protect us in social situations: the tough one, the strong one, the appreciated one, the best one, etc. We hide ourselves because we’re afraid that the truth of who we are will not be acceptable. Do you let yourself be ‘seen’ all the time ?

I realized that I feel more true to myself  and (re)found my own way of life. And yes, I am still work in progress. ;-) I still catch myself in situations where I don’t feel confident to be who I really am, but at least now I know that it’s so much easier to be who you truly are. To accept yourself for who you are. And don’t have to constantly fight and struggle to be someone another wants you to be. “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”  It’s true! :-)
