Give yourself a Happiness Boost on Blue Monday!

“A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot and realize how blessed you are for what you have”

Today it seems to be Blue Monday. It is said to be the most depressing day of the year. A perfect reason to write a blog about simple things you can do to give yourself a Happiness Boost!

Although most of us already know about these simple things we can do – why wouldn’t we give it a try, put them into practice today or tomorrow and instantly uplift our mood. :-)

1. Laugh as much as you can

You instantly feel better when you smile. Smiling can boost our mood and release stress. When you laugh or smile, it triggers a part of your brain that actually makes you happy, even when you force it. ;-)

2. Sleep works miracles

Sleep helps our body to recover from the day and it helps us focus and be more productive. It’s also important for our happiness. Sleep more and you will be less sensitive to negative emotions. So if you want to be healthy, happy, and more productive, do whatever you have to in order to get your required rest tonight.

3. Go Outside

Spending time in fresh air make people happier. Just 20 minutes outdoors in a day seems to be enough to feel more alive and to give us more energy. I will make sure I will go outside today during my lunch break and get some fresh air. :-)

4. Exercise More

When you work out and stay active on a regular basis, it gives you more energy immediately afterwards,  you feel less stressed out and generally happier. A tough work-out help you stress out the day’s worries. Get some exercise and get happier!

5. Help others

Research has shown that the thing that brings about more happiness than anything else is… to help others. Helping others brings about strong feelings that create activity in your brain that in turn leads to great feelings of satisfaction and happiness.

Help a colleague, family member, friend or neighbor in any way you like. Do a few simple things for others the coming days and check how you feel.

A Happy ‘Blue Monday’ to all of you!
